Friday Blog 8/30/24

Today in class we went over our story map. I have to finish the handout and make the story map on paper. Today was a calm day. Im glad we get an extra rest day, which can help me catch up on sleep. I can’t wait to hang out with my friends.

Wednesday Blog Post 8/28/24

Today in class we read The Joy Luck Club. The book shows how hard Asian Americans are towards their children. In Asian culture they are taught to obey their parents. After being fed up, the daughter disrespects the mother entirely leaving the mom shocked and lifeless. The portion of the book we read so far was good. So far the day has been good. I can’t wait to hang out with my friends later today.

Blog Assignment 8/28/24

Last year I was in conflict with my mother. I wanted to transfer out of private school, but my mom would not let me. We fought over this for weeks. During the couple of weeks we were fighting, we rarely talked. My mother saw how much I hated the school and finally gave in. One of the main reasons I wanted to transfer was because of the lack of diversity Marist had. Me and my mom now have realized Lakeside High School is a better fit. The school helped me find who I truly was, which I was not able to do at Marist. Since then, me and my mom’s relationship has gotten a lot better.

Tuesday Blog 8/27/24

Today in class we read “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan. Being an Asian American growing up is tough, because of all the expectations their parents put on them. The discussion questions at the end helped me relate to real life situations. Today the day has been good so far. I can’t wait to go home and chill.

Monday Blog 8/26/24

Today in class we worked independently on our vocabulary words. Since I had no Chromebook, I had to do the assignment by hand and paper. I had to define the word, draw a picture, then explain the picture. Class today was exhausting because all my assignments were online today, but I still was not provided a Chromebook. I finished all my homework for the day, so I’m just going to watch Netflix for the rest of the day.

Presentation Day!

It was cool to see all of the groups present their PowerPoints today. Hearing all of the other groups present, and their sides on how they broke down the poem was cool. The poem changed the way I see life, because I should always get my self-esteem from the inside. I should be different in society. I should not let the public impact my self-esteem. Lastly, my day is going good. I can’t wait to see the St. Pius vs Lakeside game!

Newsela!

Today in class Mr. Rease was not present, so we did an assignment on Newsela instead. The assignment took me 30 minutes to finish. The article talked a lot about immigration and how the United States has more immigrants coming its way. The article also has view points on how American citizens feel about immigrants coming into the country. Today was a good day in class. The quiet work time was calm and helped me reset for the day.

First Blog!

Today in class we broke down a Langston Hughes poem. It helped me get closer with my culture. I now realize everyone comes from different places, and judging someone from the outside is wrong. I should get to know someone instead of judge based off stereotypes. What I liked about this lesson is how it showed America growing to become more equal and inclusive. What I disliked about this lesson was having to sit down and read without interacting with my neighbors. Lastly, my day is going good. I got home and chilled and watched YouTube. Life’s good.
